Wedding photography is about the bride and bridegroom and their special day. The moments captured by their wedding photographer should portray what they had envisaged or better than that. Otherwise the photographer will be in trouble. This calls for the perfect co- ordination between the bride & bridegroom and their photographer which takes quite a lot of sensitiveness from both sides.
The most important thing to realize is photographs are not the purpose of the event! That means the professional wedding photographer has to document the complete wedding ceremony in a non intrusive way. There is no point in being overly demonstrative. The wedding is about bride, bridegroom, their family and their friends. The most useful equipment the wedding photographer needs during the event is his/her intuition! The natural or practiced skill of predicting the flow of the ceremony will bring the best out of the photographer’s camera.
But eventually it is by photographs you will remember the day. If the wedding photographs are not natural and don’t tell that unique story of the day then that is a bad job done, no matter how technically perfect the shots were or how stylist and fashionable the poses were.
Some tips for bride and bridegroom:
1. On the biggest day of your life you want to be around with a talented and pleasure to be with professional wedding photographer. Meet with your wedding photographer before the wedding and of course before signing the contract!
2. Include your wedding photographer in your invitation list! So they’ll not only know the wedding location, reception area but also will be able to take the picture of the invitation in advance! Simple enough but one less job to do on the busy day! Meantime they can visit the location and get the feel of the surroundings, lighting conditions etc.
3. Keep your wedding photographer informed about your wedding day schedule in advance. Give him/her all the details regarding when you are going to get ready, where, provide the coordinator’s contact. Do not forget to give him map and parking details!
4. It is always good to take pictures of bride and bridegroom after the wedding and not to program this time for family photography. Schedule when to take family pictures to avoid the rush and confusion. Best utilize the time before the wedding to click photos of friends, family bridal party etc. Inform your family about this before the shoot!
Some tips to the wedding photographer:
1. Get a ‘shot list’ from the couple: Definitely the bride and bridegroom have planned their wedding for several months and they imagine and envision those special moments and shots. You don’t want to forget those certain little details in decorations and surroundings to add in the wedding album!
2. Most of the times the group photography becomes the main part of wedding. This is very much avoidable as the outcome of the shoot should convey the complete story of the day. Responding to each and every person is important and capturing those unplanned moments can be a pleasurable job in the midst of all the exhausting work.
3. Last but not the least: be as much invisible as possible because nobody likes a wandering wedding photographer demonstrating about every little thing. Keep it simple and natural all the way!
